“In imitation of Christ the Good Shepherd, Father McGivney lifted the burden from the young man and shouldered it himself.”
Father W.J. Slocum - 1905 remembrance of Father McGivney
A network of Catholic men, who by working together, support the church and community. Charity is the first principle, we volunteer our time to get things done. We orchestrate and participate in fundraising events in support of local charities.
Founded on the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity, the Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Conn., and a group of parishioners. Their intent? To bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled, and needy members and their families.
Today, Father McGivney is being considered for sainthood.
Service and charity are at the heart of the Knights. Founded to meet the needs of immigrants, refugees, and families suffering from the death of a breadwinner, the Knights began as a small service organization and has grown into a worldwide financial and charitable organization.
